This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
