The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
