Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant support from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
